We got there early for our cruise on Sunday, waited in the sun at the provided meeting place with all the other customers for half an hour, and the meeting time came and went. This was a highly disappointing, unprofessional, frustrating experience. I think it only fair to be refunded for being tricked and for this horrible experience. I will be asking for a refund for this cruise. People were sick! We did not enjoy it at all. I noticed as we exited, there were boxed lunches that had not been touched. Even after we got out to sea and the captain calmed down with the rough driving, the damage had already been done and we were all sick and just wanted to get off this cruise. What we got instead was a horrible start which set the precedent for the entire trip We were left clutching the rails for dear life and floundering around the cabin of this boat trying not to injure ourselves. To name it the Sunset Cruise makes one think you'll cruise out to sea, get to Diamond Head and come back just in time to see the sunset. This cruise was a basic Bait and Switch tactic which is highly illegal. I felt like I was tricked into purchasing this trip. The $302.22 I spent on this experience was a complete waste of money. I don't even know why they call it a is not. This cruise was the worst cruise I have ever experienced. The grandson actually threw up because of all the rough riding. My husband, my girlfriend's husband and her grandson and I along with a lot of other passengers were all sitting inside the boat sick and very unhappy. I think he thought he was being cute or fun, but it just turned out bad for me and my family. I got seasick from all the "cowboy" riding tactics the captain was pulling. After a few minutes of being on this boat, my juice flew off the table, a lady sitting outside the boat had a panic attack and started crying. As soon as we left the dock, the ride was very rough, and the waters were turbulent! I've been on a catamaran before and never have I experienced such a horrible ride. After taking off our shoes and boarding the boat, we quickly realized that this cruise was not going to be the beautiful, relaxing cruise we needed. We all felt it would be a great ending to our wonderful vacation. On 5/23/23 My husband, girlfriend and her husband, their daughter, son and grandson and I all decided to go on this Sunset Cruise. The drinks were ok, the food was Luke warm but the sunset was amazing and the crew members were nice. We met some great people and a guy even proposed. If those types of things don’t bother you, the rest of the cruise was enjoyable. They smelled of urine and the floors were wet. The bathrooms were NOT clean enough for me to go in without shoes. I’m just weird about my feet and the floor/ground. Had I known barefoot was mandatory we would not have taken the cruise. Once we were allowed to board, we were told that everyone would need to leave their shoes in binds at the dock. We paid for the trip a couple of weeks in advanced, provided an email confirmation and still were told to wait to the side while he waits for an Email confirmation from the office. That was NOT very customer focused behavior. We arrived early and were 4th in line, we were asked to wait to the side while everyone else was checked in it to prevent holding up the line. But even amid questions of whether or not the burned body from the fire was hers - the head was never found - her former farmhand was found guilty of arson and died in prison. Today, it's believed that Gunness killed over 40 people. The count of murdered suitors kept climbing, and the corpses were all chopped into six pieces, were unidentifiable, contained traces of strychnine, and had been partially destroyed with the help of quicklime. He recognized the first half-rotted face they uncovered as his missing brother.Īuthorities pulled so many body parts out of the ground that they stopped counting, but five bodies were found on the first day and four more on the second. When he spoke to Maxson and learned about a recently dug hog lot, he asked authorities to start digging. The incident made headlines, and it wasn't long before a man named Asle Helgelien showed up at the sheriff's office looking for his brother, who'd met Gunness through a lonely hearts column, left home to move in with her, and disappeared.Īsle Helgelien helped search the property after the fire and even started to leave before a nagging feeling pulled him back. Neighbors started to mourn this woman who'd already lost two husbands and several children, and a former farmhand named Ray Lamphere was arrested. It's reserved for Germany's most reviled criminals, and it's exactly what it sounds like. Anyone visiting the German city can still see the city's lasting tribute to her - a spuckstein, or spit stone, in the town square. She was arrested and beheaded in 1831 (via Executed Today), the last person to be publicly executed in Bremen. She was caught when one of her intended victims - whose wife had already been targeted and poisoned - got suspicious enough to have a doctor examine the food she'd prepared for him. While she started by killing her first husband and her kids, she eventually ran out of either people or mausebutter, and when she started killing again six years later, she moved on to neighbors, a landlady, and a maid. Her weapon of choice was mausebutter - a spreadable fat laced with arsenic. It's essentially a condition where sufferers cause (real or imagined) illnesses in those closest to them, so they can care for them through their sickness. The cause? Leukemia.Īccording to Atlas Obscura, it's thought Gottfried suffered from Munchausen's syndrome by proxy. Her estimated death toll was 11, and in 1965, she died in the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, reports Tulsa World. More children and grandchildren died "mysteriously," and it wasn't until her fifth husband (who was a fine, upstanding man) died that an autopsy was ordered, and it was found he had a stomach full of arsenic. It wasn't until 1943 that her newborn granddaughter died mysteriously, and her daughter - only semi-conscious post-delivery - swore she saw her mother stab the baby with a hatpin, but there was never proof. She met her second husband through a lonely hearts column, and their marriage lasted an impressive 16 years until. And he ended up being the only husband she didn't kill. The official cause was food poisoning, but her husband - suspecting actual poison - took off with their oldest. After the birth of their fourth, the two middle children died. They had three children in three years - years controlled by a manipulative mother-in-law and an abusive, constantly drunk husband. As you might guess, things quickly went downhill. I removed the handles and put them on the shorter crinkle blade, this time laying the whole thing on it’s side so I could see the blade laying flat. but the handles made the tissue blade so long, I couldn’t control it! Really, the length of the handles plus the blade topped out at just under 10 inches… much too unwieldy for my taste. I made a swell Mokume Gane cane, and went to slicing…. I nicked myself 3 times before I got those suckers on my new tissue blade. Right where the most dangerous, pointy part of the blade is! Except to snap the saddle down and into place, you have to put your fingers somewhere for leverage… and your first instinct is to put your fingers under the saddle to brace them. You have to take off the “saddle” – the green part- put the 2 halves together through the holes, and then snap the saddle back on. The instructions on how to attach the blades were unclear- and no diagram or photo to help us visual learners out. Unfortunately, it didn’t really work out that way. I’ve nicked myself a few times grabbing the wrong side of the blade, so handles seem to make good sense: you’d know where the top is, and have a safe way to handle the blade. Initially, I was very excited about the handle concept. There are also 2 handles that can used with any blade. I’m continuing to explore the Studio by Sculpey clay and tool lines, and today I’m giving you the poop on the new Super Slicer blades. The retail price of the package was $14.99 (available at JoAnn’s ETC stores, and online) and includes 4 blades: a stiff, shorter blade, a long, flexible tissue blade, a scallop blade, and a crinkle blade. With the development of Japanese paper making technology and the widespread use of paper, folded paper began to be used for decorations and tools for religious ceremonies such as gohei, ōnusa ( ja:大麻 (神道)) and shide at Shinto shrines. The paper making technique developed in Japan around 805 to 809 was called nagashi-suki (流し漉き), a method of adding mucilage to the process of the conventional tame-suki (溜め漉き) technique to form a stronger layer of paper fibers. These seem to have been mostly separate traditions, until the 20th century.īy the 7th century, paper had been introduced to Japan from China via the Korean Peninsula, and the Japanese developed washi by improving the method of making paper in the Heian period. Main article: History of origami The folding of two origami cranes linked together, from the first known technical book on origami, Hiden senbazuru orikata, published in Japan in 1797ĭistinct paperfolding traditions arose in Europe, China, and Japan which have been well-documented by historians. Before that, paper folding for play was known by a variety of names, including "orikata" or "origata" (折形), "orisue" (折据), "orimono" (折物), "tatamigami" (畳紙) and others. Until recently, not all forms of paper folding were grouped under the word origami. The Japanese word origami itself is a compound of two smaller Japanese words: "ori" (root verb "oru"), meaning to fold, and "kami", meaning paper. The principles of origami are also used in stents, packaging, and other engineering applications. Traditional Japanese origami, which has been practiced since the Edo period (1603–1867), has often been less strict about these conventions, sometimes cutting the paper or using nonsquare shapes to start with. In general, these designs begin with a square sheet of paper whose sides may be of different colors, prints, or patterns. The best-known origami model is the Japanese paper crane. The small number of basic origami folds can be combined in a variety of ways to make intricate designs. The term "origata" is one of the old terms for origami. In Japan, ceremonial origami is generally called "origata" ( ja:折形) to distinguish it from recreational origami. On the other hand, in the detailed Japanese classification, origami is divided into stylized ceremonial origami (儀礼折り紙, girei origami) and recreational origami (遊戯折り紙, yūgi origami), and only recreational origami is generally recognized as origami. Origami folders often use the Japanese word kirigami to refer to designs which use cuts. Modern origami practitioners generally discourage the use of cuts, glue, or markings on the paper. The goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. In modern usage, the word "origami" is often used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin. Origami ( 折り紙, Japanese pronunciation: or, from ori meaning "folding", and kami meaning "paper" ( kami changes to gami due to rendaku)) is the Japanese art of paper folding.
